*UPDATE* You can see a WIP demo reel video of this robot here: [link]
This is another snippet from my demo reel wip. With him I'm hoping to show realistic texturing using procedurals and without unwrapping. He's high-poly (so nothing impressive to show with his wireframe). He hasn't been unwrapped at all.
His textures are arch & design mental ray. Diffuse is a composite map using variations of noise and masks to produce the dirty texture (with wear around the edges).
I am also using a roughness map, a reflection glossiness map, and a bump map.
Ambient Occlusion is used as a separate render pass and applied in post. AO samples are set to 256.
I also have glare enabled in my renderer output. This adds a subtle glow (...or glare!) to certain objects.
The scene is lit with 4 mental ray omni lights. I know that omni lights increase render times as opposed to spot lights, but I find omni lights are much easier to get a desired effect. (It's just my preference).
The total animation for the robit on my demo reel is 300 frames. Each frame (without AO) takes about 5 minutes. It will probably take me 3 nights (put the computer to render while I sleep!!) to render all 300 frames.
The robot itself was modelled in just a few hours (mostly because I didn't know what I wanted to model).
I always try to keep my designs simple, as you can see, he's mostly just a cylinder with some boxes attached to him.
Hope you like him! Can't wait to finish my demo reel and showcase my work.

What renderer is used for this shot If I may ask?
